ima show my friend this hes interested in Westeros geography also am i the only one here that thinks the words king's and landing put together just sounds so dam awesome xD 'Kings Landing' there's just this 'epic' feel sound to it.
Technically there are 10 kingdoms in Westeros The name "The Seven Kingdoms" dates back to when Aegon I Targaryen conquered six of the seven individually ruled kingdoms, House Stark in The North, House Arryn in The Vale, House Hoare in the Isles and Rivers, House Lannister in The Rock, House Tyrell in The Reach and House Baratheon in The Stormlands then later joined by House Martell of Dorne making seven. House Greyjoy was granted the Iron Islands and House Tully was awarded the Riverlands after Aegon defeated Harren the Black and House Hoare and the area surrounding King's landing became the Crownlands of House Targaryen.
Something I've always wanted to know is where exaxtly the boundaries of the seven kingdoms lie. Because from what I can tell from the various maps showing what lands belong to who, there's more than seven kingdoms going on here.
Well done!
Embrace it, folks. Winter. Is. Coming.
hope that kinda clears things up for you,
